Introducing #284 - Clutter
Let us introduce you to Swedish four-piece Clutter - who started off their 2025 with the release of single 'Jesus' via Swedish label PNKSLM.
Showcasing the unrelenting, cacophonous sound that echoes the band's own name, “Jesus” finds singer and guitarist Emma French taking lead vocals, fusing existential lyrical ideas with grungy, post hardcore-nodding guitars. Clutter channel the spirit of grunge and post-hardcore through distorted guitars and fuzzy vocals, blending the tones of 90s rock into their post-modern indie core. A band that comes close to chaos but just holds on, Clutter’s electricity is built around their own crackling potential.
The band will be headlining the Lexington in London on the 16th April and have just released their next single ‘Kraut’ - they took a moment to talk to us about their music.
Hey there Clutter- how are you? So your track ‘Jesus’ is out now - can you tell us what it is about?
Hello! We're good. Mostly writing new songs at the moment. Jesus is about finding a meaning in everyday life. It's about everything and nothing. The small things and the big ones and everything inbetween.
Where are you from and what are your favourite things to do there?
We are all from around Stockholm, Sweden, and live here now. Ville and Ove grew up close to each other and quite central, Emma a bit further away, and Hilda grew up in a smaller town called Gnesta. There's not much to do in Gnesta except going to Stockholm, and here the best things are the walks in our forest reserves, as well as the indoor pools. We also have some nice pubs, like Yttons. And Hus7/Slaktkyrkan usually puts on great shows.
What are the key influences when it comes to your music?
We all have a wide range of influences, but the key ones to name would be britpop and more shoegaze-yy/dream pop acts from the '90s. We also love many post hardcore bands as well, The Jesus Lizard being one of them. And bands like Sonic Youth and Bikini Kill are big inspirations too.
How would you describe your sound to someone who has never listened to your music before?
Head on collision between My Bloody Valentine and some angsty local indie band. It's heartfelt and honest, rough and cluttered. We've come to incorporate some electronic sounds now too but live it's mostly loud and fuzzy guitars, with hard drums and melodic vocals.
Now the track is out there - what next for you?
More shows and music! We're playing The Lexington in London on April 16th, which will be our first headline show in the UK. And we'll be releasing new music very soon which is very exciting.
