Festival News: Slam Dunk add more names to their line up
Slam Dunk have just added eight new bands to the bill and, to be honest, it’s getting a bit ridiculous now.
Never mind Enter Shikari and The Offspring co-headlining, or the fact that The Academy Is... and Kids In Glass Houses are re-uniting, or even the countless other fantastic appearances (Bowling For Soup, Billy Talent, Maggie Lindemann, Noah Finnce, Creeper, Holding Absence, Fit For A King... the list goes on and on!) already planned.
I’d say that that apparently wasn’t enough for Slam Dunk to taunt us with, but that’s pretty obvious by the fact that having barely recovered from that initial line-up drop, less than a MONTH ago, Slam Dunk added eight new bands. And not just regular ol’ run-of-the-mill bands.
First off, having just re-united for a show at Riot Fest in Chicago — after over five years of calling it quits — Yellowcard are back. In what will be four years on from William Ryan Key’s triumphant solo sets at Hatfield and Leeds back in 2019, Yellowcard are back at Slam Dunk to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the revered Ocean Avenue.
There’s also the fantastic Fireworks, who, having released a single in 2019 — the precursor to an album delayed unsurprisingly by a pandemic or two — haven’t played since 2015. Another one to tick off the bucket list!
Next up we have the inimitable Underoath, whose UK appearances are few and far between; joining them on the heavy side of things come both Dragged Under and Heriot, just in case any metal fans were worrying about being overlooked. There’s also the iconic Hawthorne Heights — are they a heavy band with melody? A pop punk band with screaming? An emo band torn from the scene playbook? Who knows! — the fantastic punk rockers Millencolin, flying over all the way from Sweden just for us, and, of course, Australian outfit Trophy Eyes — and we’re sure we’re not the only ones hoping for a soulful solo set from frontman John Floreani.
Hatfield 27th May, Leeds 28th May. Write it down. Ticket tiers have already moved onto the next price banding — get on it people!
