Inspired #401 - Naughty Alice

London based producer and songwriter Naughty Alice has just released her hook-laden alt pop and R&B fueled single ‘bloodline’.

Collaborating with up and coming 19-year-old singer Silvana, who has gained a following from singing covers and originals on TikTok - the topic of the single is based on Silvana’s past and no longer existing relationship with her father, who cast her aside after finding out she wanted to pursue music as opposed to a more traditional career.

Despite the song's soul-bearing nature, Haine's latest offering is in fact a heart-warming, uplifting track and puts her in a strong position for the rest of 2023.

She took a moment to talk to us about the inspirations behind her music.

Who are your top three musical inspirations and why?
As a producer I would say Inflo, he’s produced some of my favourite artists of all time for example, Little SimzSAULT and Michael Kiwanuka. His talent is unmatched and each project he works on is different - I feel like he can do anything.

I used to live next to John Bradbury who was the drummer of The Specials. He moved in next door when I was 10 and I used to go round and play drums. He impacted my musical creations a lot when I was growing up.

I take a lot of inspiration from Kaytranada, not so much in terms of exact genre but his production techniques and his collaborations. He is someone who collabs with other artists on the majority of his songs. I try to have a feature on each release to keep things fresh and current so in this way I relate and look to him.

Is there a certain film that inspires you and why?
I’ve seen King Richard three times now, mainly because I love the hard work and determination that is displayed throughout the film. It gives me goosebumps every time, especially at the end when the statistics of both Serena and Venus come up on the screen and you realise that actually anything is possible if you put in the time and effort. Routine and consistency are key and I feel inspired after watching it.

What city do you find the most inspiring and why?
London of course! Born and bred in NW London - a lot of memories have been made in this city and hopefully many more!

Who is the most inspiring person to you and why?
It’s impossible to say just one person!! My friends and family inspire me everyday. I think a combination of all the most important people in my life is unbeatable.

What were your inspirations when writing your new track?
In terms of the instrumental, I had been focused a lot on piano at the point of writing the song, which isn’t a norm for me. I started the song with it and took it from there. I listened to a lot of music that focused on this. In terms of the meaning behind the song, the singer Silvana opened up about her past and no longer existing relationship with her father who cut her out of his life after finding out she wanted to pursue her journey in music opposed to a more traditional career

How would you like to inspire people
I would mainly like to inspire women in production and the making of music in general. There aren’t enough of us, especially in the technical sides of the industry. I hope that I can motivate girls to pick up an instrument or learn how to produce and in turn they can inspire the next generation.
