Eden Rain - 'Pet Names'

Eden Rain has made impressive strides forward in her music career. The past few months have seen her steady rise gather momentum, garnering critical acclaim from the likes of The Line of Best Fit and Wondaland Magazine. This has also propelled the up and coming London-based singer into Spotify playlists and into the ears of BBC Radio 1 listeners.

The Yorkshire-raised artist cited her early musical upbringing as her “Von Trapp” era thanks to the long car journeys featuring hearty family serenades and homemade mixtapes tying everyone together. In her teenage years, she began to write poetry – the foundations of every budding songwriter. She only made the link when aged 13 she sang Carole King’s ‘You’ve Got A Friend’ at a talent show.

Far from piano lessons and talent shows, her new single ‘Pet Names’ demonstrates her newfound maturity. Produced by Josef Page (credits include songwriter Lauren Aquilina and power-pop rocker Saint Raymond), the upbeat guitar ballad is a sweet slice of her upcoming EP ‘But I’m Alright Now’.

Set in the honeymoon stage of the relationship, Page delves into the romance of her lover using cute nicknames. It is as wholesome as it is saccharine, a cosy autumnal jam complete with Tamagotchi and Animal Crossing references – the aural equivalent of a fluffy blanket and a pumpkin pie candle.

Despite the almost effortless nonchalance on her latest single, it hasn’t always been easy for her to define her direction. Touching on this, Page said “Who I am as a person is a bit of a patchwork quilt of different things. I used to polish myself up for people, but then I looked around and the things that my friends like about me is that I’m a bit frazzled and slightly chaotic; I wanted to lean into that a bit more because that’s more genuinely who I am.”

If you’d like to catch Eden Rain in action, she will be headlining The Lower Third in London on November 14th, before a home town show at Oporto in Leeds on November 23rd.
