Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard - 'Therapy'
Cardiff band Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard wants you to open your mouth wide for six minutes of “Therapy,” their latest single, which has been released on 31st October.
Consisting of Tom Rees as frontman and vocalist, Zac White as guitarist, Ethan Hurst as drummer, and Eddie Rees, Tom’s brother, as bassist, Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard started in 2017 and a few years later, made their debut with EP The Non-Stop (AllMusic, 2023). The quartet have achieved awe-inspiring success by performing at festivals like Glastonbury and SXSW and making end-of-year lists by publications such as Guardian, MOJO, and Uncut. They have also appeared on numerous radio shows, including a handful of the BBC’s. Performing at different venues in Brighton and London this November with another show planned for Swansea in February, they will set out on tour across England this coming March.
Citing early ‘70s glam rock as one of the band’s main influences, “Therapy” contains many of the same musical multitudes; for example, their buzzing electric guitars and backing vocals point to bands like Sweet and T. rex, but with a taste of more modern rock. Frontman Tom said this single was ‘an extension’ of his therapy journey in recent years. He said he couldn’t stop recommending therapy to everyone he knew, so he ‘became a massive nuisance to everyone’ telling them they needed to go to therapy. This song became Tom’s ‘fun opportunity’ to let out his emotions around being stuck and feel freer by understanding the reasons behind those blocks. Throughout “Therapy,” Tom draws parallels to who he was before the therapy through lyrical examples, like the party in the hotel. He sings: “I need a professional to tell them to keep the noise down” because the noise is in his head and it’s driving him mad – he desperately needs a professional to help solve his problem. Tom goes on to speak directly to the listener: “You need therapy!” His vocals sound like a promotional campaign for signing up for therapy…because that’s exactly what it is! “Give you some free advice/You could help yourself/But you won’t” depicts Tom’s frustrations around those who don’t want to open their mind when he persuades. Zac’s cutting guitar, Ethan’s growling bass, and Eddie’s brazen drums form a musical environment akin to Tom’s story about his inner world and therapy experience.
Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard’s latest single is exactly what you need to listen to with its catchy melodies that will be ringing in your head for days and its positive message about therapy.
