Princess Nokia - 'closure'
Princess Nokia’s latest single ‘closure’ is one for the Y2K nostalgia chasing folks
Transporting you straight to the nineties, Princess Nokia’s latest single ‘closure’ is one for the Y2K nostalgia chasing folks. Rejigging her sound once again, the track is filled with pop elements complimenting her experimental rap flows. “You came at the right time and I let you/You came at the right time, you were meant to,” she sings, reaching for a saccharine resonance rather than a laid-back one. ‘Closure’ gives a subtle nod to pop-punk, one of the most popular rock genres on earth. Composed with angst, heartbreak and a ready guitar riff, Princess Nokia appreciates a lost love for what it was.
The New York based rapper recreates youth culture from the era with low-rise jeans, studded bracelets, flashy belts, and a bikini top. Inspired by Steve Eichner’s iconic photos of New York City’s nightlife, we see a variety of striking characters getting up to all sorts of things as one would in a naughties film. It definitely adds to the catchy break up anthem that provides an accessible catharsis to both listener and artist.
“I wrote you this album for my closure,” she sings, ready to let go and move on.
Listen to Princess Nokia’s ‘closure’ below. Her new album ‘i love you but this is goodbye’ is set to drop on March 14.
