Indigo De Souza - 'Younger & Dumber'
Indigo De Souza makes a bold return with power ballad ‘Younger & Dumber’, alongside the announcement of her third album, arriving later this year.
The release of the song marks the beginning of a new era for the singer-songwriter from North Carolina, and we couldn’t be more excited. After the critical acclaim of previous album Any Shape You Take released in 2021, which was unique in its sound combining alternative rock with essences of indie, pop, grunge, and Hi-Fi, we are positive De Souza will blow fans away with her creativity and individuality amongst new music.
‘Younger & Dumber’, the concluding track of new album All of This Will End, leaves listeners speechless after first listen, with its heart-wrenching storytelling and instrumentals.
The song begins with De Souza’s delicate vocals paired with soft acoustic guitar and piano, preparing us for the explosion of expression and sound that will arrive later. She takes us on a journey of self-contemplation, with lyrics concerning childhood, growth, and family.
A love letter to everyone’s inner child: De Souza emphasises the importance of accepting your upbringing, whether it be positive or negative, finding beauty and purpose.
Fans can catch a glimpse of Indigo De Souza’s artistic creativity in the music video released alongside the single, directed and conceptualized by De Souza herself. Combining sentimental childhood videos with scenes of dancing, surrendering herself to her movements and body, she masterfully creates a video focused on presence and true spirit.
Presence will be a reoccurring concept in the new 11-track album, with spiritual resilience being at the centre-front. Working with producer Alex Farrar, who also contributed to Any Shape You Take, De Souza tackles the spectrum of human emotions, being inspired by community and stability.
“Today I’m alive and at some point, I will not be in this body anymore. But for now, I can do so much with being alive.”
To bring the new album to life, a US tour has been announced for 2023, with over 20 dates including SXSW. Indigo deSouza is a force to be reckoned with, and ‘Younger & Dumber’ shows off her greatest abilities in songwriting, vocal performance, and storytelling.
All of This Will End will be released on April 28, via Saddle Records.
