Lake Malice - 'Stop the Party'

Lake Malice releases new single ‘Stop the Party’ as a reaction to dealing with depression and social anxiety in the post-pandemic world as they support Bloodywood on their UK and Europe tour.

Lake Malice’s new single, follows on from the explosive eclecticism of ‘Black Turbine’ and ‘Magic Square’ which both came out last year and received love on BBC Radio 1 Future Alternative, Future Artists, Rock Sounds and Kerrang! They have shared stages with some of the UK’s best underground heavy talent such as Hacktivist and InVisions, and Lake Malice has just been announced as the main support to Bollywood across the UK and Europe in March. They will also be playing various festivals including Download, Lume and 2000tress.

Lake Malice have released another slice of anthemic heaviness in their new single, ‘Stop the Party’. The vibrant track, takes inspiration from hyperpop as it does the world of metal. The innovative track reflects vocalist Alice Guala’s experience dealing with social anxiety and depression in a post-pandemic world. She explains that when things went normal, she felt that there was a veiled expectation for people to catch-up on social events - anything from birthday parties to gigs and festivals. Alice Guala explains, “as a person who suffered with anxiety and depression most of her adult life, it was extremely difficult to switch my social skills back on, and that's when my depression reached its lowest points (hence wanting to "stop the party", where the party represents life).”

The zombie-riddled music video which accompanies the new single, was inspired by ‘The Last of Us’ as the series started airing when Lake Malice were putting together the storyboard for the clip. Alice Guala says, “We knew we wanted the video to be a party, but then we added the zombie element to represent that feeling of unease and anxiety you can easily get, being in a social setting. So yeah, it turned out to be a zombie party.”

With guitarist Blake Cornwall, raining down the riffs and singer Alice Guala, ‘Stop the Party’ is a three-minute rollercoaster of rage and nihilism is expressed through a polished production by Grammy nominated producer Romesh Dodangoda who has previously worked with Bring Me the Horizon, Nova Twins, and Bullet For My Valentine.
