lilo - 'I Don't Love You Anymore'
London Based Folk Duo lilo release their third and final single I Don't Love You Anymore' - taken from their upcoming EP ‘I Don’t Like My Chances on the Outside’ set to release on the 14th of April.
‘I Don’t Love You Anymore’ is a song that follows the discovery that you no longer love someone, who is very much still in love with you. ‘I Don’t love you anymore’ is a heartbreaking song that is an alt-folk-inspired track, that is illustrated through the use of beautiful soft harmonies as well as a calming groove that can be felt throughout the song.
This is what lilo had to say about the meaning behind ‘I Don’t love you anymore’ it’s ‘telling someone who loves you very much that you want to break up with them. It opens with the clocks changing over on New Year's Eve, as I realised that I knew how I felt but didn’t want to admit it, even to myself. The song moves through the horrible moment that you say the thing you never thought you would, and into the feeling of relief, as you get it out of your system and wriggle free from your secret.’
lilo debuted last year with their debut EP ‘Sleep Country’, however, the duo knew each other long before the release of ‘Sleep Country’. lilo, (Christie Gardner and Helen Dixon) met during their school days in Winchester at the age of 11. They created an incredible bond that led to the creativity and brilliance that is lilo. Their new material is set to break new ground in the Uk Indie- folk landscape, with the idea of a full-bodied band being a possibility, as well as an offbeat country-pop vibe. lilo has been working with a collaborator as well as friend Joseph Futak since August 2020, weaving intimacy into their music through their strong bond friendship.
“Despite the song being quite liberating in a way, it lingers on how you’ve made the other person feel, and the guilt that sticks to you long afterwards. When we all went through simultaneous breakups last Summer, we would take it in turns to cry to this song in rehearsals. It’s a liloright of passage.” - lilo on ‘I Don’t Love you Anymore’
Their second EP ‘I don’t like my chances on the outside is releasing on limited Red vinyl in May.
