Krooked Kings- ‘Coming Of Age’
The difficulty of navigating the boundaries between adolescence and adulthood, is perfectly reflected in this new release by Krooked Kings.
Salt Lake City based indie rock band Krooked Kings have released their new single ‘Coming Of Age’. A vibrant track that embodies nostalgia and freedom, which would be perfectly placed on any indie movie soundtrack.
Krooked Kings formed in 2019 by a group of friends from the University of Utah, starting off playing shows in backyards and basements. Cut to now, they have started gaining traction in the indie music scene, using their time as of late working on their upcoming sophomore album.
The new release from Krooked Kings ‘Coming Of Age’ wrestles with growing up. The lyrics explore the balance between childhood and adulthood, feeling too old whist simultaneously feeling too young. The quintet questions “are you growing up or getting old”, encapsulating a fear many are sure to relate to. The lyrics continue on to the chorus “cracks in the mirror lines on your face, you’re to old to be coming of age”. Krooked Kings delve into the tricky details of finding your way in todays society, a generation that have seemingly been conditioned to attempt to achieve their life goals by twenty-one, wondering how they can feel so young and lost whilst seeing themselves all grown up.
Further delving into the unknown of leaving your adolescence behind, a line that stands out comes from the lyrics “you ain’t got no confidence, you forgot your common sense”. Navigating a world that feels unfamiliar is a tricky skill to learn and doing so in your ‘Coming Of Age’ years mixes fear, freedom and excitement, perfectly soundtracked by Krooked Kings new single.
A spirit raising and sparking indie track, showcasing energetic guitars, cohesive drums and effortlessly engaging vocals. A unique track from a band with a unique story. A band raised in the Mormon faith, later making the decision to walk away to explore and embrace music. Krooked Kings have shown their creative talents in music making with the nostalgic single ‘Coming Of Age”.
