Eden Rain - 'Crumb'
Eden Rain’s latest single ‘Crumb’ establishes her as one of the most promising upcoming artists just ahead of her debut EP due next month.
Rain’s endearing autobiographical songwriting style was initially showcased in debut single ‘Wake Up, You’re Stuck’, and has since become a staple of her work, with each release providing a snapshot into the inner workings of the Leeds-born artist’s mind. New single ‘Crumb’ is no exception to this and offers just over 3 minutes of unfiltered honesty. The track drops ahead of Rain’s highly anticipated EP ‘Gutter Vision’ which is set for release on May 19th.
‘Crumb’ provides an impressive taste of what to expect from the forthcoming body of work. Strikingly powerful metaphors capture the frustration that comes from giving everything to someone and getting nothing in return. From the first verse, Rain’s poignant edge of self-awareness is clear, as she heartbreakingly recounts ‘I’ve bitten off more than I can chew again, but love’s a currency, I trade it to be loved by men’. With thought-provoking poetic expressions detailing Rain’s most personal struggles, ‘Crumb’ is as much a piece of written art as it is a musical one.
The R&B-infused production of the track is as masterfully crafted as its lyricism, with intricate instrumental arrangements that create a breathtakingly captivating soundscape. Looped drumbeats, rolling baselines, and subtle piano melodies provide the perfect background to Rain’s leading vocals. It is the rising star’s deep and raspy vocal expression, reminiscent of the likes of female powerhouses Amy Winehouse and Raye, that ultimately completes the track.
Showcasing articulate emotive lyricism and clean production, ‘Crumb’ is a testament to Rain’s talent and her potential as a young artist. With a headline show scheduled for May 22nd at London’s Folklore, it seems like we will be hearing a lot more from Eden Rain in the future.
