Komparrison - 'He Doesn't Get It'
A fresh piece of fun bubble-gum punk is blowing in from Middlesbrough - Komparrison hit us in the face with new single ‘He Doesn’t Get It’ - a kind of Maisie Peters meets Be Your Own Pet kind of track.
With an exclusive first play from Chris Hawkins on BBC Radio 6 Music already under its belt, ‘He Doesn’t Get It’ is set to take the band to a whole new level.
“We’ve been wanting to release something that is slightly different to what we normally do, which is tell our stories about our tragic love lives! Layered vocals soar above the overdrive and offer a different perspective from Komparrison compared to our previous anecdotes, celebrating the joy of being in love from the perspective of a member of the LGBTQI+ community”, explains Elise from the band.
A quintet spread out across the north-east, Komparrison was formed by friends Elise Harrison and Kaitlyn Kempen. The duo spent five years writing and gigging as an acoustic act, before adding more members, Ellie, Jess & Elliott, to the line-up late in 2020 to grow the project and flesh out their sound.
Their debut EP ‘You Say She’s Satisfied’ was released in March 2022 and soon came to the attention of respected tastemakers such as BBC Music Introducing, This Feeling and NARC. Magazine.
Outwardly trading in feel-good indie and care-free attitudes, the band write songs with depth and startling observation to create an essential document of life as a working-class woman intrigued by their surroundings and ready to push boundaries.
Taking lyrical influence from such artists as Lily Allen and Orla Gartland, Komparrison have the confidence and ability to talk about taboo subjects in their storytelling. Their music also tips its hat to the best of British guitar bands, like Arctic Monkeys, Royal Blood and The Big Moon, as well as many from the Brit Pop era.
Support slots with The Futureheads, Andrew Cushin and The Lottery Winners - as well as explosive sets at Twisterella, Generator Live and Stockton Calling - helped establish the band as one of the north east's most exciting young acts.
