Jamie T - 'Hippodrome'

Jamie T has been a staple name on the indie-rock music scene since the release of his seminal debut record ‘Panic Prevention’ in 2007. Over a decade and a half later and with five albums under his belt, countless tours and festival appearances (including Glastonbury), his musical prowess shows no signs of faltering.

Ahead of his Finsbury Park headline date, supported by the likes of IDLES and Kojey Radical, Jamie T has dropped a surprise new track ‘Hippodrome’. Coming just one year after his fifth studio album ‘The Theory Of Whatever’, ‘Hippodrome’ is an anthemic feat teeming with energy-infused instrumentals and his distinctive gritty, South-London vocals.

A story filled with drugs, eluding night-club bouncers, shots, liquor and chatting on old TV shows (with a shout out to John Cleese) Jamie delivers a narrative on “that night at the hippodrome” and a wild night out as he introspectively reflects on his own emotions “You know I'm all love, hatred and stuff”. Overtly nostalgic and surprisingly emotive, this latest release harks back to the soft indie found vein throughout his third album, 2014’s ‘Carry On The Grudge’.

Accompanied by tinged-red swirling visuals that perfectly encapsulate the goings-on of a night out, we see the video dart from scene to scene, girls dancing, house parties, club toilets and roulette tables – essentials of the west-end nightlife.

‘Hippodrome’ offers a teaser of what Jamie T is yet to present to us from his repertoire, and we can only hope he continues in the music industry for at least another decade to come.
