beabadoobee - 'the way things go'
Whether you’re looking for an upbeat pop-fuelled cut to dance to, or a soft, emotive ballad to cry into your coffee with, beabadoobee has all of your bases covered. No stranger to the limelight, the Filipino-English star has toured with The 1975 and Taylor Swift, headlined festivals, taken over TikTok trends and is back with her brand-new track ‘the way things go’.
Released ahead of her US tour later this summer, ‘the way things go’ is a breezy offering that boasts dazzling melodies and bea’s inimitable vocals in arguably her most developed and delicate release to date.
Drenched with sadness, the track dotes on acceptance and moving forward from things out of our control – “They do say love is blind / But I guess that's the way things go”. Giving solemn ballerina with a tinge of ‘Apple Cider’, Bea softly croons on a relationship turned sour backed by a chorus of slowly building vocals. The single comes accompanied by a visuals directed by Jacob Erland that presents a flurry of ballerinas twirling around a room that wouldn’t find itself out-of-place as the set of Bridgerton.
Following on from the brilliantly concocted ‘beatopia’ (released in the Summer of last year), and her collaboration with Clairo on ‘Glue Song’, the stripped-back and sentimental ‘the way things go’ offers the latest peak into the new direction Bea seems to be taking – delicate introspections wrapped in swirling soundscapes.
We can only hope this latest number is set to be a part of a bigger project.
