Mumble Tide - 'Kindest'

Mumble Tide’s newest creative single ‘Kindest’ is a soothing, spiritual journey into a genre the band had previously left unexplored.

Their latest track is a move away from their older work such as ‘Everything Ugly’ and ‘Love Thing’, which deliver a more upbeat, pop-centred sound. Their single ‘Kindest’ however immediately draws you in with its hazy guitar riffs and Leonard's sultry vocals, unknowingly providing the backdrop for a dense summer’s day.

Lyrically, Mumble Tide explores themes of self-reflection, relationships, and personal growth with a refreshing honesty. The subtle instrumental arrangement allows Leonard’s vocals to shine with clarity and precision, ringing similarly to the sweet melodies of Alanis Morrisette, or the gentle intimacy of Lana Del Rey. The dreamy ambience is consistently maintained throughout the song, transporting listeners to a world of whimsy and introspection. The music video possesses the same delicacy as the lyricism, featuring a whimsical white spirit that floats with the melodies.

Leonard divulges the story of their single: “Kindest is about those shady thoughts you try to lock up inside yourself, about feeling weird and scared and guilty. It's potentially our favourite track we've ever made together. The arrangements are more sophisticated than our normal kiddy vibe and we feel good about (hopefully) having pulled that off.”

‘Kindest’ demonstrates how Mumble Tide are willing to push themselves out of their comfort zones, and subsequently produce unique, borderless new singles that continue to satisfy and surprise. They have expanded to new demographics, perhaps reeling in a diverse range of followers, and appealing to those of intricate musical taste. A personal favourite and one of the most interestingly poetic lyrics from the song is the following: “There is a hammer in my heart, metal in my blood, songs in my throat, holes in my love”.

With their enchanting soundscapes, honest lyricism, and charming quirkiness, the Bristol-based duo has firmly established themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the indie-pop scene. Mumble Tide's latest track is a breath of fresh air, and their future endeavours are undoubtedly something to eagerly anticipate.
