Izzi De-Rosa - ‘cinderella’
Chaotic, carefree, and euphoric. Izzi De-Rosa tells the story of a modern-day fairytale gone wrong in new single ‘cinderella’.
Offering an unconventional take on the traditional love story, ‘cinderella’ sees Izzi step into her own and embrace her artistry. The track follows tongue-in-cheek ‘loverboi’, the Londoner’s first release of 2023, which signalled a change in direction for her music.
The new single showcases the relatable storytelling and ‘00s inspired pop production that has quickly become Izzi’s trademark. Brimming with infectious confidence, the unapologetic anthem embraces the turbulence of being in your 20s. From impulsivity to indecisiveness, witty lyricism describes the rush of falling for someone despite being bad for one another.
Speaking on the new single, Izzi says: “When I wrote ‘cinderella’ I was thinking about the hedonism and chaos of your early 20s and its influence on dating and finding love. We live in a generation where flimsy relationships are built over glasses of wine and drunken nights, and it is so easy to trick ourselves into thinking we have connections with people we only know in the context of an intoxicated blur. I think we chase these connections with strangers so blindly in the attempt to feel something, anything. I portray this through telling the story of Cinderella, which follows the turbulence of new and somewhat toxic romance against the backdrop of self-indulgence, partying, and inebriation.”
With breakbeat-inspired production, the sound of the track is as addictive as its message. Filled with catchy hooks and vibrant instrumentation, ‘cinderella’ takes elements of hip-hop, jazz, and funk to create a refreshingly unique pop sound. A triumphant chorus boasts brash trumpets and punchy drum lines as a dynamic backdrop to Izzi’s signature Brat-Pop vocals, securing the track as an end of summer anthem.
Combining fearlessly honest songwriting with danceable cross-genre production ‘cinderella’ is a bold exploration of Izzi’s sound and some of her most authentic work to date. With the current string of singles dating back to her 2021 debut, there’s no doubt that the promising pop starlet has much more to come.
