Caity Baser – ‘Why Can’t I Have Two? (2468)’ and ‘DILF’
Caity Baser unveils her latest cheeky pop track ‘Why Can’t I Have Two? (2468)’, complete with a surprise B-SIDE.
Challenging expectations and making her own rule book, pop sensation Caity Baser has just dropped her first double release. The record comes less than two months after ‘Leave Me Alone’, which signalled the beginning of a new era for the Brighton-born star.
Whether she’s writing heartbreak anthems or sassy pop tracks, Caity’s work is never short of personality. Bursting with energy and brutal honesty, new single ‘Why Can’t I Have Two? (2468)’ is no exception.
Driven by an infectious thumping bassline, the track playfully centres around Caity’s struggle choosing between two boys. With tongue-in-cheek lyricism throughout, the single radiates confidence and is a guaranteed mood booster.
Caity explains “Why Can't I Have Two? (2468)’ is about when you fancy someone and then fancy someone else at the same time, which socially that is not acceptable. BUT I was thinking why on EARTH can’t we have two? When you like two people for different reasons why can’t you have two? It’s the debate I’ve been having in my mind and now you can think about it too. You can have two! Fuck it, have 3.”
The empowering track draws on themes from previous singles including ‘Slut Shaming’ and ‘Haters’. Laying out the double standards for relationship expectations, Caity questions ‘If I was a guy, I’d do what I like, so why should girls have less, are you dumb?’. Pairing unfiltered lyricism and inescapably catchy hooks, the track perfectly showcases what fans love about Caity’s music.
The new single comes equipped with a surprise additional release: ‘DILF’. Opening as a romantic ballad, the track holds a hidden surprise. Delicate piano melodies and soft vocals quickly subside to make way for the the ultimate twist.
With the onset of the chorus, the subject of Caity’s true desires quickly becomes clear. ‘Your dad’s a DILF/ He’s absolute filth’ she sings. Fearless and unbothered by what others might think, the outspoken popstar gushes over her newfound love interest, in what is arguably her cheekiest record to date.
On the inspiration behind the track, Caity says “I made ‘DILF’ about my best friend's dad hahaha. He’s so hot - he was in the navy and it’s so distracting when I go over. Also DILFs need love too and I’ve never made a tune about it before so I’m happy I’ve explored this concept and had so much fun when doing it too. Let’s go! Your dad’s a DILF!”
Bringing exuberantly chaotic energy, ‘Why Can’t I Have Two? (2468)’ and ‘DILF’ perfectly showcase Caity’s refreshing take on pop music. With new songs already in the works, it looks like the rising star will continue to take the pop scene by storm.
