Coach Party - 'Be That Girl'
Coach Party offer a final preview of their upcoming album ‘KILLJOY’ with introspective new single ‘Be That Girl’.
After a summer of lighting up stages across Europe, Isle-of-Wight band Coach Party are preparing to release their debut album, due this Friday. Latest single ‘Be That Girl’ continues to build excitement for the long-awaited record.
Reconciling with the realisation that you have become a different person to who you once were, the track explores themes of nostalgia, emotional conflict, and growth. From grappling with letting go of your past self, to finding acceptance in recognising personal development, ‘Be That Girl’ offers just under three minutes of honest retrospection.
Written while the band were on the road last summer, drummer Guy Page explains: “We were touring a lot last year, so a big chunk of the writing for KILLJOY happened in hotel rooms, such as 'Be That Girl' of which the bulk was formed in a morning in Spain before heading out to play BBK Festival. It's one of the more inward & self reflective songs on the record, and the one with the softest sonic edges. Retrospectively, it feels like a step closer to our early style as a band, which is nice."
Driven by cathartic electric guitars and heavy drumbeats, the track takes on an unapologetic alt-rock sound. With singer Jess Eastwood’s leading vocals placed front and centre, ‘Be That Girl’ holds a powerful sense of emotional resonance alongside its grungy production. A soaring chorus provides an impressive culmination of rocky instrumentation, while verses see heavy guitars subside to showcase the band’s endearingly candid lyricism.
‘Be That Girl’ is the sixth track shared from the forthcoming album ‘KILLJOY’. It follows heavy rock-infused ‘Parasite’, existentially questioning ‘What’s The Point In Life’, and empowering anthem ‘Born Leader‘, as well as earlier 2023 releases ‘All I Wanna Do Is Hate’ and ‘Micro Aggression’. With a UK/EU tour to accompany the album release, it looks like Coach Party will continue to prove themselves as strong indie newcomers over the coming months.
