Mayday Parade - 'Jamie All Over (Lofi Edition)'
I had a dream last night we were in 2007, except now you don’t have to because Mayday Parade are rereleasing Jamie All Over with a Lofi twist!
Nearly 20 years since their debut EP ‘Tales Told By Dead Friends’, Mayday Parade have announced ‘Mayday Parade Lofi’, a collaboration with Less Gravity. Dreamy, reminiscent of vaporwave aesthetic and a real nostalgia trip, the EP brings new life to some of the band’s most beloved tracks. An experiment in how their material has stood the test of time and can be interpreted across various genres, the first re-released single ‘Jamie All Over’, the iconic hit from their debut album ‘A Lesson in Romantics’.
Regardless of whether you are a long-time fan or completely new to the band, the track oozes a sense of nostalgia and whimsy that is tangible for every listener. Downtempo and completely flipping the original song on its head, this version is a wonderful opportunity to really listen. Without lyrics, they get to really play around with the musicality and invert and shift the timings of the melody. The relaxed tone brings deeper meaning to the track but to say that it is ‘sadder’ in this format would be reductive. Instead its far more emotive, particularly so when you know the lyrics and can apply them to the new soundscape.
The band are certainly giving us a lot to look forward to this year. Whilst the lofi EP is set for release on March 8th, Mayday Parade are taking to UK stages next month as they support Simple Plan. The tour kicks off on the 9th of February in Manchester and wraps up in London on the 16th just in time for the EP release.
