Hairpin - 'Coyote'
New York City based indie band Hairpin bring you a smack in the face with their wild new single ‘Coyote’.
Taken from their upcoming Spring release - the first form of “Coyote” traces back to November 2021. Hairpin played it in almost every show since then, always at the part of the set where it would get the greatest spotlight. According to the band, “‘Coyote’ captures feelings of frustration stemming from a relationship wrought with broken promises, power imbalances, and dishonesty. The concept hinges on the chorus lyrics, which introduce the possibility of redemption for the relationship. The main hook didn’t form until May 2023, after which it became clear that the song had to finally be committed to tape.”
The band are meticulous in the way they refine their sounds and ideas to represent the extremes of what make records good, on the spectrum of smart to sexy, challenging to pop, referential to innovative, raw to refined, etc. This is the main objective of Hairpin creations – to represent the juxtaposition and contrast of what is lovable in music, flying from massive choruses with pop hooks to dissonant shredding riffs, classical-inspired melodies to caustic distortion, and hyperpop stylings to classic rock influence.
