The Mysterines - 'Sink Ya Teeth'
Merseyside alt-rock band The Mysterines explore themes of desire and chaos in a new powerful and grungy single: ‘Sink Ya Teeth’.
Since discovering a newfound purpose and direction they wanted to dive deeper into, The Mysterines have hit the ground running. Their new single doesn’t shy away from the ever-growing confident four-piece that they are - they’ve climbed their way to the top, having shared the stage with Arctic Monkeys on their 2023 UK and Ireland tour.
The Mysterines (comprising of lead singer Lia Metcalfe, drummer Paul Crilly, bassist George Favager, and guitarist Callum Thompson) have gained a bold following in recent years. ‘Sink Ya Teeth’ is the second track they’ve released to give us a taste of their upcoming album ‘Afraid of Tomorrows’, and it’s clear that the alternative rock lovers are dying to hear more.
Bursting into life, the single kicks off with deep basslines and tumbling electric guitars. The driving drums and guitar set a heavy yet danceable beat. The bottled anger presented in this track is undeniable.
Lia Metcalfe’s vocals are raw and hard hitting throughout, and it’s impossible to not turn your head when you hear her uniquely open and loud singing. While talking about the song, Metcalfe comments ‘Sink Ya Teeth is a testament to the brutality of real love. Written during a time where the boundaries of pain and passion were warped amidst the chaos of addiction and desire’. Her words are reflected in the lyrics ‘I guess it’s easier said/Baby I’m onto you/You trap love under the glass to keep me loving you’, showing brutal desperation for another’s love despite all the glaring red flags.
The catchy dull plucking sounds of the guitar throughout create an addictive cycle for us as listeners, whipping us up into the storm of a messy situation that is really best left alone. There’s something about this track that keeps you going back for more and wanting to get lost in the dirty mess of it all again.
Lia Metcalfe talks about drawing on the themes of ‘…traumas, of the old and new, mistakes, addiction, fear and happiness, loneliness, but ultimately a desire for life and the fight to keep living’, and bringing them to life across all of the tracks within the album, and ‘Sink Ya Teeth’ is a standout single that is beaming with love, hunger, and confidence.
With the release of their new album ‘Afraid of Tomorrows’ on the horizon, due for release on June 7th, anticipation is rising amongst fans. The four-piece alt-rock band are set to take off on their biggest tour to date this Autumn from October 18thto November 8th, and with multiple dates already sold out, it’s clear that The Mysterines are a must see.
