Pearl Charles - 'Smoke In The Limousine'
Pearl Charles’ latest single, ‘Smoke In The Limousine’, is an achingly beautiful and cinematic track that is led by acoustic guitar strings and Pearl’s dreamlike vocals. The track is equally fitting for a heartbreak or as the perfect sound to a serene, sunny day - versatility at its finest! The single was recorded at Infinitespin Studio in LA and produced by Lewis Pesacov who has worked with the likes of FIDLAR, Local Natives, and Best Coast.
Elegant, poignant, and soulful. ‘Smoke In The Limousine’ exudes a sense of comfort, cosiness, and emotional warmth with its lush harmonies. This track is so soothing, it feels like a warm, inviting bed where you could fall asleep in. If you’re a fan of English Indie trio ‘Daughter’ or Linda Ronsdtadt, then you will no doubt enjoy this track as there are incredible similarities.
In Pearl’s music, you can hear a progression from old-time music to 60s garage and psychedelia, and now to more country and soft rock. This track channels the trippier side of The Beatles with its trance-like and repetitive rhythm.
In 2021, Pearl released her highly commended album ‘Magic Mirror’, which earned praise from publications such as The Guardian, Sunday Times, Uncut, and Pitchfork. As a musician, singer, and songwriter, Pearl draws on what she loves about each era while developing her own style and voice. In ‘Smoke In The Limousine’, Pearl veers slightly from her usual fusion of country and disco, infusing a modern twist into a 70s-inspired sound.
Commenting on the track, Pearl explains; “‘Smoke In the Limousine’, like a tarot card spread or a palm reading, speaks of our past, present and future, as well as the conscious and subconscious interpretations we project onto all three states of time. Envisioned “smoke and mirrors” inside limousines that both promise grandeur and luxury, but also may not be all that they initially seem to be - if they ever even come to be at all. Still, we find ourselves hanging onto hope for the future, even if it may turn out to be entirely illusory.”
