French Cassettes - 'Megabus'
French Cassettes roll on down the highway on a ‘Megabus’, aptly also the title of their latest single release! The single is due to be featured on the band’s upcoming album ‘Benzene’ which is out on the 7th of June via Tender Loving Empire.
‘Megabus’ is a melancholic and charming The Beatles-inspired indie rock release with stunning vocals and a softly strumming soundscape instantly putting us at ease. The song is a welcome breather, a break from stressful everyday duties and brings a brilliant sound to our playlists. The San Francisco-based indie trio have just released the single together with a video portraying the band performing their song live in what seems to be a TV studio. Passionate frowns and expressive faces bring the song to life and make the video an engaging watch.
Add a layer of soothing and almost angelic vocal harmonies and colourfully soft guitar lines and you have a grand and warm-hearted sound that is both addictive and comforting. On their new release, guitarist and vocalist Lorenzo Scott Huerta said: “I have nothing against songs about buses, I just never thought I’d write one. I spiked a drink on a Megabus to Sacramento and the combination of cocktail and staring out the window for two hours wound up being this song. I think I admit a little more guilt lyrically in every song we write. I don’t normally feel comfortable writing country songs, but I imagined Dolly next to me singing harmonies the whole time and that was truthfully the only way I could finish this one.”
Safe to say we’re grateful the alcohol and imaging Dolly harmonising made Huerta able to finish this song as it is now one of our favourites which will no doubt brighten up our dreamy indie pop playlists. ‘Megabus’ is also a great promise for what we may expect of ‘Benzene’, which was recorded at guitarist Mackenzie’s studio in Oakland and mixed by Nick Krill, who previously worked with War On Drugs and Generationals. We’re promised a comfortable and confident sound taking more risks including some intricate and delicate guitar work. Soulful, colourful, and powerful, French Cassettes have truly left an impression with the release of soothing alt pop single ‘Megabus’!
