A Certain Ratio - 'Clockwork Orange'
You won't get music more captivating than the latest A Certain Ratio release, 'Clockwork Orange' is a powerful synth rock release with exciting vocals and a thunderous soundscape.
'Clockwork Orange' listens like a mantra, one you almost have to sing or speak along to, as it's simply fascinating. A thumping rhythm, chanting vocals and hazy, electronic elements shining through the mix bring a surprising combination of sounds that together make for a unique new track. The legendary Manchester band returns with the release of 'Clockwork Orange' on Speedy Wunderground as part of their 7" single series and after the release of their album 'It All Comes Down To This'. This new piece of work is made up of illustrious synths, shape-shifting electronics and subtly haunting vocal harmonies.
For the track the band worked with Dan Carey at Speedy Wunderground who're known for their quick way of working, trumpet player and guitarist Martin moscrop commented "we spent a day recording the song with Dan Carey and arranged to pick up our equipment the following morning at 10am. Dan had been up since 8am working on the elements of the song and as we walked into the studio our jaws dropped. He had transformed the song into something very dark, different, and full of interest-factor." Together they made the track as dark as it could sound, slow, steady, heavy, and with warm undertones, it seems 'Clockwork Orange' turned out to be A Certain Ratio's eureka moment.
The single will be available on 7" and includes a dub remix B-side remixed by Dan Carey, although fans that jumped on the A Certain Ratio-train around 'All Comes Down To This' might prefer a little less dub and a bit more guitar. It's a matter of taste, and changing musical courses tastefully, which is something A Certain Ratio have certainly succeeded in.
