The Amazons + Royal Blood - 'My Blood'
Joining forces with powerhouse duo Royal Blood, The Amazons deliver an immense new single, ‘My Blood’.
After forming a long-standing friendship with Royal Blood in the early stages of their career and later supporting them on tour, The Amazons have begun 2025 with a bang. Produced by Royal Blood’s lead singer and bass guitarist Mike Kerr and Ben Thatcher on drums, ‘My Blood’ is a track that seamlessly binds the strengths of both bands, resulting in a bold and powerful single.
Haunting vocals create the perfect runway into the signature hard-hitting style of Royal Blood’s guitar riffs. Accompanied by brass instruments, the opening is cinematic and punchy.
The combination of gritty guitar, pulsing drums and dynamic vocals from The Amazons’ Matt Thompson fills the track with another layer of life. Lyrically, ‘My Blood’ explores the resilience and true drive of an individual to pursue their passions. Speaking on the subject, Thomson says “Why do we carry on when the chips are down and all we hear is ‘stop’? My Blood is an exploration into why, when you truly believe in something, you can push yourself past the point of pain.” This introspection adds depth to the track, resonating with listeners who have faced similar challenges.
The production is polished yet remains raw and filled with emotion. Influences from Royal Blood are clear throughout the track, however The Amazons still have their equal contribution with how the song plays out – irresistibly appealing to fans of both bands.
The collaboration feels natural, too – not just an experimentation on a whim or a clash of sounds. This furthers the organic and raw feel to the single, drawing you in and keeping you hooked from start to finish. Thomson notes "Mike was one of the first people I spoke to about collaborating on '21st Century Fiction.' He’s become somewhat of a mentor over the years."
A beautifully timed decrescendo makes space for the track to breathe before entering into an epically confident pinnacle, something straight out of a film soundtrack, before diving back into a broken-down instrumental finish, similar to the beginning of the single.
With The Amazons’ upcoming album ‘21st Century Fiction’ set for release May 9th, 2025, ‘My Blood’ sets high expectations. With its irresistibly catchy nature and skilled production, it’s bound to become a staple within rock playlists and a stand-out highlight in live performances.
