The Hope, The Fear - 'Fall Right At The Start'
The Hope, The Fear release their defiant new single 'Fall Right At The Start'. Blending huge cinematic sounds similar to the Killers meets Sam Fender - filled with indie grit and deep storytelling depth.
Tackling the inequalities of growing up in a Northern working-class town, it reflects on cuts to essential services, fading opportunities, and the struggle to build a future in a place that’s falling apart.
Alexander Fletcher explains, “‘Fall Right At The Start’ is a defiant anthem about the inequalities of growing up in the UK. It’s fierce and nostalgic, reflecting on towns closing down, opportunities disappearing, and the workingclass struggle to build a life. But amidst it all, there’s pride—pride in hard work, in community, and in knowing every success is earned. You either build your dream, or fall right at the start.”
Recorded at The Green Room (The Pigeon Detectives, Far Caspian, Ellur), the track marks the first of many releases set to drop over the next six months. Having already gained momentum with local support from BBC Introducing Leeds and Sheffield, alongside regional shows supporting Bailen and Ida Mae, The Hope The Fear continue to build a sound that’s both deeply personal and universally resonant.
Tom Smith’s debut solo album ‘There Is Nothing In The Dark That Isn’t There In The Light’ retains the warmth and optimism of his band Editors whilst slow-dancing to a different sonic heart.
