Aussie duo Skegss share a message of celebration and cast aside differences in upbeat new single ‘So Excited.’
Jonny Lani and Ben Reed of Skegss have returned with ‘So Excited,’ the group’s latest single about bringing people together and making the most of the present moment. “Instead of making things complicated, let’s all agree to disagree more and enjoy the same things we all like as people,” says Reed. And this statement is certainly reverberated throughout the track with one of the most memorable lyrics being “If we wanna see the forest from the trees/ Then we’re gonna have to agree to disagree.” Skegss’ main mission with this song is to unite people and to have a great time overall. Drawing similarities to groups like Neon Trees and Toploader, Skegss have infused classic ‘50s surf guitar with punkish jams, as found in Lani’s punchy, hard-hitting drums, into ‘So Excited.’
They’ve stayed true to the original sounds that made their music so popular in the first place over ten or so years ago. These Byron Bay dudes have retained that musical authenticity with bright and sunny beach party vibes, as seen in the single’s cheeky music video. And it’s surely always summertime in Lani and Reed’s world, no matter the weather outside. I would say this is definitely a song to put on your summer playlist or to hit play to if you’re just in need of a good cheer-up.
Basking in the light-hearted Skegss vibes, listeners can escape the monotony of everyday life for a moment or two with ‘So Excited.’ It’s a feel-good anthem that’s easy to sing along to, leaving you chasing that high long after the song ends like all good Skegss productions. I notice a certain childlike wonder and joy in Lani and Reed’s music, whether found in the shape of the vocal hooks or in Reed’s guitar arrangements. Their high-spirited music is for people of every age, and the playfulness of this single makes for a carefree, easy-breezy, danceable vibe – something that everyone can find a bit of love in. On a more personal note, I first found out about these guys last year with their single ‘Spaceman,’ and my love for them has only grown since then. Wishing all the best to Jonny and Ben.
