Damiano David - 'Voices'
Opening track to his debut album, Damiano’s energy is infectious on ‘Voices’.
Most know him from Maneskin but Italian singer-songwriter Damiano David is paving a new path with ‘Voices’, one of the lead singles from his debut solo album ‘Funny Little Fears’. Shimmering pop gold, its a wonderfully catchy track that tells a deeper story about acceptance and perseverance through inner conflict. Its the final single released in anticipation for the album but chronologically and also in terms of the running order, it is the first chapter in Damiano’s new retelling of who he is.
Talking about his inspirations and intentions with ‘Visions’, Damiano explained that he wanted to capture the mix of emotions he has been going through since breaking out and achieving widespread fame and accolades as well as his decision to begin releasing music independent from band Maneskin.
‘Voices is about my inner battle—everything that pulled me away from myself and from really understanding what I wanted … and more importantly, what I didn't want… writing it helped me work through some deep emotional blocks and anxiety, and let me show a more personal, maybe unexpected, side of myself—both musically and as a person … releasing 'Voices' before the album feels like opening the last door, inviting everyone into my inner world, without fear.
It is a track about the reclamation of identity and the subsequent empowerment and euphoria you feel knowing that you are being authentically yourself. For Damiano, ‘Voices’ is the discovery of his own voice and using it to sing through the outside noise. It, the release of the album and the decision to go at things alone is a reflection of the artist he is looking to become - one who rejects the mould of expectation, challenges the confines of genre and confronts the fears that have held him back. Both sonically and through its lyrics ‘Voices’ is a rebelling against what Damiano ‘should’ be doing and instead opting to choose to do what as an artist he needs to do.
The album, which by divine intervention came out for Eurovision weekend, is followed by a mammoth tour that will see David travel Europe, North America, Australia, South America and Asia. Encompassing 34 dates across five continents, with multiple sold out shows, venue upgrades, and additional dates added, it is a true statement of intent as he continues to cement his true rockstar status on the world stage. We can look forward to summer festival appearances, including the iconic Lollapalooza stage where he is sure to take Chicago by storm.
