Pynch - 'How You Love Someone'

Pynch release their most emotive and visceral song to date.

Off the back of the 2023 album “Howling at a Concrete Moon”, Pynch have developed an all-new track “How you love someone” that will age like a fine wine. The band use an excellent blend of nostalgia and serenity to create a coming-of-age story to be remembered forever. This song, like their others, uses this format to craft a narrative that can’t stop you from tapping along. The track employs some Smiths-esque jangly single coil chords to create a set rhythm that is then accentuated by the thick and rich bass line that undercuts the track and takes centre stage during the opener.

The tonal changes in this song are absolutely excellent and show a true prowess of sound design and understanding of progression without putting anything on the line. This is a skill that is few and far between nowadays, but it works like magic and makes this track an absolute homerun. All of the sound design was meticulously engineered by the band’s frontman in their own home studio. There is nothing more standout and impressive than a group that can cater to every single one of their needs without needing to lose any quality or key components. Spencer Enock is able to hammer away at the anvil and create an honest and special sound that boosts the performance past the vast majority of indie music in circulation nowadays and into the wider stratosphere. This connection to the process makes it feel more sincere and intentional than taking any other route, and this truly shines in this track as everything is crystal clear and lined up perfectly.

The lyrical content of this song is cutting and reflective. It creates a genuine moment for the listener to consider their own interpretation of the question, “Is this how you love someone?” It’s poetic, honest, and full of meaning, elevating the song from just another indie track to a standout performance. Everything on this song works; everything is tight and well-balanced, with an ear-catching and attentive rhythm from Julia Hopkins on drums, complemented by a lush and creative melody from the surrounding band. The synth, bass, and guitar all work tirelessly to carve a path for the vocals to walk down, doing so with grace and ethereal beauty, and they certainly deliver. “How you love someone” on the 27th of August, in anticipation of their new album “Beautiful Noise,” releasing on the 3rd of October via their own label, Chillburn Recording. Mixed by the emphatic and gifted Jimmy Robertson of Fat Dog and Los Campesinos! fame, this sound is sure to remain as tight as it is on this track and will undoubtedly make an impact. Keep your eyes peeled—there’s more to come from these guys.
