XCOMM - 'Fake ID'
Budding Venice Beach hardcore band XCOMM turn up the heat with vivacious and unruly new single “Fake ID”.
XCOMM have come out swinging, the same way they have since their 2023 inception, and the haymakers won’t stop coming. With their new track “Fake ID”, the Venice beach 5 piece have cultivated a more chaotically refined sound, building on tension and snare bombs to really get the spin kicks flying before their nasty riffs start. XCOMM has had a fantastic start to their careers, having already opened for hardcore legends Hatebreed and even supporting modern-day rock and roll godfathers Foo Fighters at the Kia Forum in a sold-out charity show for Hope The Mission and Los Angeles Mission, 2 essential local charities that aim to assist the state’s homeless population.
Picking apart this track, we find an intricate and well-crafted track built on the foundations of hardcore fundamentals. The thing that sets its beatdown-heavy sound apart from a lot of projects is the tenacity and the youth that exude from the flair given by each member of the band. Clocking in at only 2 minutes 6 seconds long this track opens on a solid bass line and persistent snare bombs building a slow and methodical frenzy that will make for some brilliant side to side pit action before emerging into an all guns blazing collection of riffs that play off against each other purposefully, the serpentine bass line continually climbs over the pounding and timeless hardcore drum style of Revel Ian. feeling the passion and the drive from a newer project is what keeps the wheels of the hardcore scene turning and makes fans and artists alike remain both involved and addicted to its ever evolving roster of talent and I truly believe that XCOMM is one of those names that we will slowly see climb their way up festival lineups and gain mass appeal both within the scene and outside of it.
The messaging of this song is also light and youthful. Born from the frustration of being refused entry to shows for being under 21, this reflects in his coarse and emphatic vocal performance as well as his lyrical content. “Fake ID” is a track that will not only truly resonate with you musically, but if you’re a young music fan out there, like many in the inclusive and all-ages hardcore scene are, you’ll probably be able to relate to the bubbling rage you are imbued with just after being turned away from the discovery of a lifetime. This track has an air of inspiration for the youth of the scene, and I truly hope it inspires every kid in one of their dads black flag shirts or anyone trying to dip their toes into counter culture to go and engage with something truly magical.
This track is the second single from XCOMM’s debut album, “Time To Burn”, and if the singles are anything to go by, this album will continue to burn white hot and keep people both experiencing a fresh up-and-coming band and engaging with the scene around them. I truly believe that this project will lead them to the back of a tour bus on their way around the globe, and I can’t wait to see it happen.
