Fat Dog - 'Shit Love'
London punks Fat Dog bring wild energy on chaotic new single ‘Shit Love’.
With its incessant looping techno synth which only briefly abates in the middle of Fat Dog’s wonderfully chaotic three minute single ‘Shit Love’, the band channel the wild energy of the likes of Pendulum and dance techno pioneers The Prodigy.
Violently stirring up a bewildering barrage of blistering beats, the full throttle single evokes a maddening atmosphere of impending oblivion. As the band’s singer Joe Love quite colourfully summarises, their new single is “All stabbing, manic vocals and a beat that sounds like a rollercoaster trying to shake itself off the tracks”. The song describes two insane people in a relationship that argue incessantly, with its colourful insults and palpable anger.
Much like their recent single ‘Cancel Me (I’m Tired)’, Fat Dog manage to delicately tread the line between utter insanity and off the wall creative genius, erratically flying from high speed pulsating beats to brief moments of calm to break-neck techno dance to stomp to, constantly making them irresistibly unpredictable.
In the running theme of insanity that pervades through much of their music, the opening verse: ‘It’s a nightmare, coming over me, Oh my God, send them back to the freak show, I’m drooling, you’re boring, Didn’t realise being a cunt was your calling’ showcases their uncanny ability to be both vulgar yet eloquently cutting in their brutally unapologetic and honest lyrics.
As well as pithy insults and catchy rhyming couplets, Fat Dog conjure superbly menacing imagery with lines such as ‘Now I’m howling, used to growling, Chase me round the house like a prime Jack Nicholson’. The single is sure to cause an eruption at their intimate instore shows to celebrate the launch of their new album ‘Cancel Me (I’m Tired)’ in October, which will prime their cult following of fans perfectly for a landmark show for the band at the Brixton Academy that will culminate a hugely hyped major headline tour, including a much deserved and brilliantly billed major headline slot at Brighton’s Mutations festival, which will undoubtedly be a hedonistic highlight of the late summer festival season.
Far from being cancelled, the band have been heralded as the prestigious Radio 1’s Hottest Record of the Week to featuring on Radio X and Kerrang playlists, Fat Dog are rapidly becoming a fearsome force to be reckoned with, and they’re revelling in every chaotic second of it.
