TRILLS - 'Super Blue Moon'
TRILLS have made Meryl Streep cry. Any other achievement after that almost seems like overkill.
The London pop-quartet have had the kind of career trajectory usually reserved for X-factor contestants, going from singing a capella at birthday parties to having songs in major motion pictures. That feat is made all the more impressive when one considers what an unlikely success they are. The school friends are undeniably talented singers, but despite the best efforts of some notable pop producers, TRILLS remain resolutely more glee club then girl group. On new single ‘Super Blue Moon’, TRILLS are all heartfelt earnestness. The track comes in with a single voice and slowly blossoms into their signature harmonies. The production is so subdued it could almost be an acapella, only occasionally breaking out into deliciously piercing notes, reminiscent of Robert Fripp’s work with the Roaches. TRILLS aren’t a typical pop act, even on this track you can still imagine them singing at a graduation ceremony as much as Glastonbury. But that doesn’t really matter. ‘Super Blue Moon’ is a lovely and delicately-handled composition from four young women who were made to sing. And if it’s good enough for Meryl it must be worth a listen.
