White Prism - 'Good Man'
Composer, producer and vocalist White Prism encouragers her listener to stand up for what they believe in on exhilarating synth pop single, ‘Good Man’.
White Prism is the project of Johanna Cranitch who draws inspiration from Kate Bush, Phill Collins, Joni Mitchell and Cocteau Twins and threads them into a modern synth pop sound. ‘Good Man’ is an immersive, brooding sound that takes buoyant percussive textures and edgy, dripping textures to create an intially clammy and brooding sound.
Cranitch makes use of synth that uncoils and springs with an elasticity, occasionally twinkling with a melodic lightness as Cranitch’s vocal soars with an airy pop-centric elegance that juxtaposes the weightier textures in the production. Cranitch calls upon military style textures to create a song that moves with a fluidity, but is also rigid and regimental as she hammers home the message, “we need a miracle so take my hand… roll up your sleeves for what you believe, cause it’s raining now and it’s harder to see”, promoting togetherness in times of crisis.
On the track Cranitch explains, ‘Good Man’ is about fighting for love, for what you believe in and ultimately being on the right side of history. I wrote Good Man after a difficult period with my then Husband. I was reflecting on our differences and right when I was writing the lyrics, The news came on that Trump had started to attack the health care bill in the courts effectively taking away transgender rights to the health care act and It felt like a very ominous sign of things to come. We were all recovering from the election still and this felt like such an assault on freedom in America”
This is edge-of-your-seat electronic music with real meaning.
