Deh-Yey – ‘Danephesians 4:31’
Heavy riffs? Check. God-like drumming? Check. Star Wars and The Proclaimers? … eerrrm check.
‘Danephesians 4:31’ is the third single, their first with Restless Bear Promotions, from Cheshire’s Deh-Yey. This is by far their strongest yet. ‘Danephesians 4:31’ is grungey punk metal – Tom Maude drums as if his life depends on it, and Cash Burns riffs as though trying to summon the Devil. It’s a huge sound to come from a two-piece, similar to Drenge, but Deh-Yey definitely play with more bollocks. But most striking is Cash’s development as a proper gutsy punk rock vocalist. He does not hold back.
‘Danephesians 4:31’ is a “tongue in cheek” retelling of a Biblical story – “Imagine it now – Jesus on the Jeremy Kyle show.” And that is what sets Deh-Yey aside from the usual heavy guitar band contemporaries. They utilise their strange sense of humour to create interesting lyrics. How many songs do you know that reference both Star Wars and The Proclaimers in the opening line?
This is a song by a band that will tickle your balls and get you bouncing off the walls. It taps you’re your primal instincts of energy. When’s the EP coming out, boys? I’m getting impatient.
