Album Review: Georgia - 'Seeking Thrills'

A dance album with depth- Georgia’s ‘Seeking Thrills’ is sure to light up any dancefloor.

The term ‘dance-pop’ sounds cheap and disposable, so it’s with some reluctance describing ‘Seeking Thrills’ as such, considering the sheer talent of Georgia, and the complexity of her tunes. The album doesn’t rely on overdone, drawn-out drops or other dance, but instead shines with its sense of urgency. As the lyrics on ‘About Work The Dancefloor’ repeat, the album feels like a moment, and an important one at that. From start to finish the album transports you to a club where the world doesn’t exist outside of those four walls; it’s all encapsulating and hypnotising, with glistening synths and tempos that have your heart racing. A dose of melancholia on tracks like ‘24 Hours’ remind us that this moment could end, so we have to enjoy the here and now. Luckily for us, we can simply restart the album. There’s artistic integrity on show here, with Georgia such a gifted multi-instrumentalist and vocalist. It’s dance pop without any cheese or cliché.

There are few changes of pace in the album, with tracks like ‘Mellow’, as the title suggests, slowing down the album. This is of no detriment to the body of work, as it acts as a step off the dancefloor to get a drink, have a breather; a necessary part of the night out Georgia is taking us on.

The highlight of the album is the third single, ‘Never Let You Go’. It sounds a little like a Chrvches track, perhaps if they’d decided to make a dance track without the assistance of sh*t-hit machine Marshmello. It’s catchy and infectious and is crying out for a performance at a big festival on a sunny day. ‘Seeking Thrills’ is more than an album; it’s an experience, and whilst it certainly holds up on in the background, it deserves more. No distractions, put the album on and let Georgia show you her idea of a good time; you won’t regret it.
