Album Review: Kiwi Jr - 'Football Money'
Toronto’s Kiwi Jr have released their debut album ‘Football Money’ which see’s the band lay down some ice cold rock tunes on their big arrival.
2020 promises to be the breakout year for Kiwi Jr as the band have shows in the UK lined up along with a big show at SXSW Austin, Texas in March. The debut album will however be the bands biggest achievement as it’s a incredible first attempt with great pop melodies & early punk rock sounds flowing through the album perfectly.
The album starts with ‘Murder In The Cathedral’ which is a stunning rock song which has a 60’s nostalgia feels of a Doors song, lyrically a very quirky song which fits the punk side to the song really well. The album thens flows into the song ‘Leslie’ which is the first example of pop melodies featuring but also a more modern & polished rock sound. One of the highlights of the album is the song ‘Comeback Story’ which has real psychedelic feels which blend together with pop rhythm to create a song which although is a slower tempo is so deadly.
Another highlight of ‘Football Money’ is the album-titled track which really shows the band finding their own sound for the first time, Kiwi Jr feel so comfortable on this song & it shows in their performance on this song. Overall this a solid first attempt by the band from Toronto, a great range of styles in the album & a true showing of the bands astonishing sound.
