EP Review: Rosie Shaw – 'Sometime Soon'
Sometimes, you just feel like crying. Maybe something didn’t go as planned, maybe you dropped your favourite ring down the sink, or maybe it’s just one of those days… Oxford-born singer-songwriter, Rosie Shaw, creates a safe space to feel it all on strikingly beautiful debut EP ‘Sometime Soon’.
Written from the comfort of her bedroom, ‘Sometime Soon’ is the definition of emotional. All four tracks come with their own form of intimacy. Where opener ‘Temporary Love’ capitalises on soaring melodies and yearning vocals that make you fear your heart might rip at the seams, title track ‘Sometime Soon’ is soft and quiet, floating in a stripped back, acoustic setting that draws attention to Rosie’s honest, heart-felt songwriting. But though each song is a delicately crafted masterpiece, the heart and soul of the record is closing track ‘Summer Doesn’t Feel the Same’ that lives on vocals alone. No distractions, no fancy instrumentals; only Rosie’s stunningly captivating voice slow-dancing with the song’s heart-breaking lyricism – “People distract me, and it feels like magic. But summer doesn’t feel the same without you here beside me.”
‘Sometime Soon’ is everything you want and more. An EP made for late night drives and watching the sunrise, for cold autumn mornings and sleepless nights. A heart-warming heartbreak record and a gorgeous introduction to Rosie Shaw’s breath-taking world of bedroom pop.
