Skout - 'Ghost'

Brooklyn based singer, songwriter and guitarist Skout makes her indie folk influences more prominent on striking new indie pop single, ‘Ghost’, taken from her new EP, ‘Patterns’.

’Ghost’ opens with rhythmic and weaving guitar melodies, setting a warm clucking indie folk driving rhythm that beautifully accompanies Skout’s emotive and confessional storytelling. There’s a sense of freedom that exists within Skout’s songs. Her arrangements are touching yet feel-good and empowering. The sonic backdrop to Skout’s songs ultimately feel light, because Skout’s inward-looking songwriting sees her unburdening herself from the thoughts that weigh her down. Her songs are personal yet relatable and ‘Ghost’ explores the conflicted feelings and confusion felt in the aftermath of a heartbreak.

As the track develops, the dynamics chop and change, fleshing out with exciting percussive rhythms that are somewhat of a signature sound. There’s room for reflection in the slower dynamics on the track as Skout ethereally confesses, “you were never really here, so I can’t call you a ghost” among magical chiming production and emotive guitar work.

There’s also a very brief guitar instrumental that builds into a pounding and exhilarating crescendo - dramatic, cathartic, transcendental. ‘Ghost’ is another meticulously crafted and wise offering that sits besides previously released tracks, ‘Dumb Little Life’, ‘Move’, and two other top notch singles on Skout’s new EP, ‘Patterns’.
