Super City - '42 Years'

'42 Years’ by Baltimore band Super City is a bizarre song. It’s about an “infamous godlike leader passing the torch” and begins with a guitar riff that sounds like a record stuck on repeat.

It’s then accompanied by a thundering rhythm section similar to a Queens of the Stone Age guitar solo that has a Josh Homme weirdness to it. But ’42 Years’ is hypnotic, infectious, brilliant. Super City blend infectious pop hooks with rock n’ roll energy and danceability.

The harmonised vocal lines are irresistible to no one, and the melodies have that cool ease that is similar to Plague Vendor’s ‘Black Sap Scriptures’. The band from Baltimore seem to combine effortless cool with well-crafted songwriting.
