Album Review: Twist Helix - 'Machinery'
North East big-hitters Twist Helix are making waves once again with their hotly anticipated second album ‘Machinery’.
This three-piece are certainly one of the unique acts to come out of Newcastle upon Tyne in recent years, with the band’s alt-pop beautifully blended with Spanish flare which has stood Twist Helix well since their debut album ‘Ouseburn’ and carved out their own unmistakable sound.
What is clear about this trio is that they love their craft, with a hunger to create something that is truly individual, and ‘Machinery’ is the epitome of that as no two tracks are the same. But below the infectious glow of pop and indie disco, lies an important message about Twist Helix’s “experience as a band” and how the industry works and “contributes to the wider culture”.
It’s fair to say that ‘Machinery’ sees this band find their voice, exploding into action with the opener ‘Louder’ and not stopping for anything as Twist Helix destroy the boundaries of genre and put their own unique twist on the likes of 80’s pop and post-punk on tracks ‘Vultures’ and ‘Exposure’ respectively.
‘Machinery’ is not only a triumph for Twist Helix, but for scene as a whole, showing that there is hope yet and that greatness can be reached through sheer hard work and love for your craft.
‘Machinery’, the new album from Twist Helix is available now on all major streaming platforms.
