lotusbliss - 'Carpet'
Canterbury based brothers lotusbliss release sleek indie rock on ‘Carpet’, the final single before the release of their debut EP, ‘A Good Death is a Beautiful Thing’ due out 21st February.
If there’s one thing to be said about lotusbliss it’s that they’ve got the whole danceable yet moody indie rock pop aestheticss down to a tee. ‘Carpet’ is a stupendously slick cut of music that subtly teases moody, flittering, psych infused tones in and out of the track, and isn’t afraid to comfortably switch dynamics to keep its listener thoroughly on its toes.
As the track develops the band drawn on suspenseful, dramatic textures to drive the track into a monumental instrumental and the lead singers vocal effortlessly switches between both brooding restrain and raw emotion to highlight the sincerity and anguish in the lyrical theme:
”it's about a pivotal relationship moment in one of the band's life, where in the course of an evening he came very close to going on a break with his then girlfriend whilst all the while having an engagement ring in his pocket that he'd bought the very same day. This song is the 'Sliding Doors' version of events - where things weren't patched up and their lives took a different course”.
A gnarly and heartfelt song that leaves its listener feeling feverish with excitement.
