Nightseason - 'Broken Glass'
Nightseason drive forward with a more refined alternative pop sound on ‘Broken Glass’, the thrilling first look at what to expect from their upcoming, 7-track EP.
Nightseason was conceived when drummer-turned-producer Patrick Zeinali scouted Jordan Caiola on Spotify pinning him as the vocalist he wanted to collaborate with for his new project. 2018 saw Nightseason release their potent 5-track debut EP, ‘Coasts’ which included the feverish single, ‘Dying In The Heat’, but interestingly enough the EP was written over email without Nightseason ever meeting in person.‘Broken Glass’ is the first track the duo have dropped since their debut EP, showing off a tighter, more refined sound as Nightseason push forward with their hybrid rock, hip hop and contemporary electronic sound while showcasing sharper pop melodies.
‘Broken Glass’ is driven by a warm acoustic guitar melody and a thumping percussive rhythm setting a danceable and engaging backdrop for Caiola’s gritty soulful vocal to glide off of. As the track develops, it becomes more urgent. Subtle use of distortion, layered textures and delirious electronics provide a searing, disorientating elements to the production as Nightseason reflect on the rollercoaster ride and burn out of going round in circle in an on and off again relationship as they explain:
”This track is written from the perspective of someone in an on-and-off relationship that has repeatedly failed. Small problems/arguments have escalated until resentment builds (from walking on metaphorical eggshells to broken glass). By the end of the song they are willing to give up, for the sake of their counterpart’s best interests”.
Through ‘Broken Glass’ Nightseason have succeeded in delivering another disarming track that shows off their endless likability and potential.
