SPQR - 'Just Sumfin'
SPRQR’s current release is ‘Just Sumfin’ you need to hear right now.
SPQR are shaping up to be the most intriguing and exciting bands to come out of Liverpool for a while. Their take on art rock truly pricks up your ears, and the fact that they have played with bands such as HMLTD proves they are worth any music fan’s attention.
And ‘Just Sumfin’ does this. It’s released ahead of SPQR’s first vinyl EP ‘No Brain, No Pain’. It opens with a lovely piano off to the side, followed by the band coming in with a groove so infectious you will instantly stop you in your tracks. The guitars are staccato and funky, the drums simple and complementing the sleek basslines. The vocals are in straight away too. They are the strangest yet beautiful vocals I’ve heard in a long time. SPQR go from hypnotic funk to a melodic and almost heart-breaking chorus that prove their capabilities as a band and brilliant songwriters. Go check it out.
