Dizzy - ‘The Magician’
Dizzy are releasing their second single from upcoming sophomore album ‘The Sun and Her Scorch’ (31st July) – a magical follow up to ‘Sunflower’.
As you would expect from a band known for their dreamy melodies, ‘The Magician’ sparkles with ease. But everything is not as it seems. The trickling of soft vocals and free flowing, enchanting rhythms may sound like fairies dancing in silver moonlight but what seems like a celebration of life is merely a cover up for heart-breaking lyrics – “I should be used to it, I’m not new to loneliness and waking up to find the kitchen in its emptiness, your heart and soul unmatched.”
Talking about the inspiration behind ‘The Magician’, vocalist Katie says: ”The song is about wanting to magically bring a friend of mine who passed away back to life. To me ‘The Magician’ reeks of naivety and innocence in a way that really hurts my heart. Hoping she’ll walk into my gig at the local pub, hoping to see her mom at Sobeys just to remember how similar their laughs were. Hoping for magic. It’s a really emotional song for me but is masked by tricky, pretty production to make it sound almost joyful.”
