Babeheaven - 'Human Nature'
Babeheaven’s ambient and nostalgic new track will transport you right back to the downtempo sounds of the 90s.
Human Nature is one of those tracks you could describe as more than a song; it's a 'whole mood' or a feeling. It’s sombre yet happy simultaneously, with hints of Morcheeba and Portishead in its layered soundscape. There’s a warmth and an enigmatic lure to the chilled track as soon as you press play. Manipulated guitar twangs, stuttering break-beat drums and descending piano melodies draw you in and have a deliciously mellowing effect.
Singer Nancy’s warm and seductive voice drizzles over the song like honey, while the lyrics address the subtleties of our identities and modern relationships. A super tight relationship between the band, most notably between founding members lead singer Nancy and lead guitarist Jamie, has meant the West-London five piece have an exceptional skill of conveying emotions and communicating about intimacy through their music - and this release is no exception.
The band said the song is about the relationship between our inward and outward selves: “It’s about the performance we do online, where everything exists in a sort of grey area. “We thought that social media would lead to individualism but a new human nature is exciting in an other worldly state. It’s about losing touch with yourself and not transmitting emotions." The release follows the band’s acclaimed 'Suspended Animation' mixtape and headline tour, as well as performances alongside Loyle Carner, The Japanese House and Nilüfer Yanya.
Lockdown hasn’t stopped the group from keeping busy, with appearances on NTS, a live performance on COLORS, as well as Mulberry’s Instagram, and Nancy's takeover of the GANNI Instagram account.
