Stockholm’s latest talent, rising singer songwriter JÁNA, shares debut EP ‘Flowerworks’.

“My goal is to create a world for each song to live in. I pay a lot of attention to lyrics. I want them to hit hard, but still be art,” JÁNA says about her song writing process. “I want the songs to have a variety of potential interpretations depending on which way the listener hears it." ‘Flowerworks’ follows through on that promise. This EP is the perfect space for her introspective lyricism to roam freely. Living in a dark, magnetic sound sphere, all 5 tracks captivate with intricate RnB infused arrangements. Some dreamy and soft (‘Dew’), others smooth and hypnotic (‘Lotus’) but at all times irresistible.

‘Flowerworks’ was born out of JÁNA’s own experiences, it follows a relationship from its hopeful beginning to a sudden, abrupt end. “One day, I had my girlfriend, my apartment, a publishing deal and then the next, everything went away,” she reveals. “I realised I can't control anything; that it’s always in motion.” This sentiment shines through in her impressively emotive lyricism that paints vivid images of heartbreak and reminds of Banks in its poetic essence – “I’m not trying to be heard, I’m just standing by your side. I see my own reflection, our love through glassy eyes.”

Though only a five-track debut, ‘Flowerworks’ speaks volumes. An artist with a vision, JÁNA is on the right path to become one of the leading voices in alt pop.
