Album Review: Disclosure - 'Energy'
Disclosure are back with their first album in 5 years, the new album ‘Energy’ is a tremendous electronic album which is a wonderful eclectic body of work.
2020 marks the 10th anniversary since Disclosures first single ‘offline dexterity’ and since then the duo have been pioneers of the modern dance scene. With 2 No.1 albums, over 4.5 Billion streams & 4.5 Million album sales Disclosure will be definitely on course to add to their success with the release of their new album ‘Energy’.
The album starts with a fantastic house/electronic song ‘Watch Your Step’ which is a collaboration with Kelis, the two styles combine magnificently to great a glorious pop song. The album then flows pleasantly into ‘Lavender’ another solid song which is very much back to Disclosure’s earlier sound with the vocals on the song coming from Channel Tres. One of the real highlights of the album is the single ‘My High’ which features both Amine & slowthai on the track, the tempo is slightly faster but the mix of both U.S & UK rappers on the track brings two different dimensions which are both superb.
Disclosure also show great depth in this album with “Ce n’est pas” an intriguing dance collaboration with Blick Bassey which is produced in French. ‘Douha (Mali Mali)’ is also a wonderful piece of music with Mail singer Fatoumata Diawara which focuses on Diawara’s hometown & about the importance of unity. With so many collaborations on the album the key highlight on the album is actually a song just performed by Disclosure in ‘ENERGY’, the single merges the best possible electronic sounds with a Brazilian samba style which is immense.
Disclosure had some real pressure to produce on this album but they have knocked it out of the park for sure, the duo show why they are one of the best electronic groups in the UK.
