EP Review: Beach Bunny - 'Blame Game'
Beach Bunny have released their exquisite new EP ‘Blame Game’ which follows on from the bands critically acclaimed debut album ‘Honeymoon’.
‘Honeymoon’ was an explosive debut album by Beach Bunny which featured on many album of the year lists and the band have struck while the iron is still hot with a fantastic new EP ‘Blame Game’. ‘Honeymoon’ was an album themed around the highs and lows of new love but now with the release of ‘Blame Game’ the band focus around the subjects of toxic masculinity, sexism & emotional labour of unreliable relationships.
The EP starts with the lead single ‘Good Girl (Don’t Get Used)’ which is a great single which tackles toxic guys by talking down to them and belittling them. It’s a very empowering song which brings to the light a woman knowing her worth and not putting up with any nonsense. The EP then takes a different turn into the next song ‘Love Sick’ which focuses more of the vulnerabilities of a relationship, you can even feel the frustration in lead singers Lili Triilio’s voice which is truly moving.
Third track ‘Nice Guys’ is a marvellous song destroying the stereotype of nice guys and exposing them as manipulative and fake. The lyrics on ’Nice Guys’ are outstanding with the best line on the whole of the EP being ‘Win me like a trophy not a consolation prize’ a powerful line which speaks so much volumes & frustrations. The final song of the EP is the titled track ‘Blame Game’ which Beach Bunny themselves have called the most important song they’ve written so far. The song explores the honest insecurities women have in relationships. Its such a heartfelt song which pleads to accept women for who they are and that you shouldn’t make her blame or doubt herself in a relationship.
The EP really does show off the strength of the songwriting the band has and the ability to produce such catchy well produced music. ‘Blame Game’ is a stunning EP and an excellent follow up to Beach Bunny’s debut album.
