aeseaes - 'Chimera'

Texas husband and wife musical duo aeseaes shares stunning single ‘Chimera’ taken from their debut album, 'Shapeshifter.’

aeseaes’s debut album ‘Shapeshifter’ comes after years of the duo growing an audience through EPs, singles and captivating live Twitch stream. Their single, ‘Chimera’ is a fine display of enchanting songwriting. It opens with the chorus, a beautiful ascending progression portrayed by stunning and soft layered vocals, harmonising so carefully that the melodies almost feel interlaced.

There are a handful of influences on display with ‘Chimera.’ There’s an essence of Ben Howard’s ‘I Forget Where We Were’ in the skittering drum pattern, a grand James-Vincent-McMorrow-like atmosphere built in the textural sonic choices, and the feeling of standing in a large Scandinavian snowy mountain range that’s present in the likes of Aurora’s or Mogli’s work. The icy and bright vocals also add to this feeling but are balanced by the strings that almost ground this song in a way, as though a whale-song is calling from somewhere deep below. Be sure to check the new album, ‘Shapeshifter,’ out now.
