Milly - 'Denial'

Los Angeles-based four piece MILLY have just released the lead single of their upcoming EP ‘Wish Goes On’, single ‘Denial’ is sentimental yet sounds hopeful and riff-filled.

Milly have made a name for themselves by sharing beautifully well-crafted dream pop songs since 2019 and graced the stage alongside DIIV and Swervedriver. Their upcoming EP is primed to build on their previously achieved successes. Single ‘Denial’ hopefully sets the tone for the rest of the EP.

‘Denial’ is bittersweet both in sound and message, a slow and strong guitar-driven song reflecting on loss, solitude and times gone by. Bandleader Brendan explains: “I was living in New York at the time I wrote ‘Denial’ and was going back and forth between there and Connecticut. I was really trying to capture the feeling of being alone and why it was hard for me to digest how that felt.” With soft vocals that lay comfortably in a bed of almost funky riffs and soft drums, ‘Denial’ is well-produced and showcases the musical abilities of MILLY. All separate parts of the single come together well and smoothly and make for a well-rounded release with an opening, a middle and an end. ‘Denial’ almost reads like a nostalgic short story and sounds like a more mature version of previously released singles. “It’s about my hometown spots feeling different after leaving, people moving on with their lives…”

Milly translated this feeling of places never truly feeling the same after returning in a way no artist has done for me before, and being in ‘Denial’ is just the right word for it. EP ‘Wish Goes On’ is due for release on the 9th of April.
